RRR03: III. Pathology

IBLCE Domain III. Pathology: HIV, maternal and infant conditions in breastfeeding care

IBLCE domain III. Pathology explores breastfeeding management in complex conditions including HIV, maternal infections, multiple sclerosis, gestational diabetes, SGA infants, and congenital heart disease, supporting safe, evidence-based care for mothers and babies.

Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Critically appraise evidence and guidelines on breastfeeding with maternal HIV, including transmission risk, antiretroviral treatment, and infant outcomes
  2. Analyse complex maternal conditions to guide individualised breastfeeding counselling and informed risk–benefit discussions.
  3. Evaluate infant‑related issues such as small for gestational age and congenital heart disease, to guide collaborative care planning and ongoing lactation support.
