Midwives and women engage in a professionally caring relationship during pregnancy and in the post birth period.
Developing a therapeutic relationship when providing maternity care is a vital component that underpins a successful experience for both the woman and midwife. Midwifery is a complex profession that is able to meet the sometimes complex needs of women. Significantly, midwives need to accurately reflect their management of care particularly when a woman chooses care outside of recognised professional guidelines or against professional advice.
