Course Learning Outcomes

  1. Explore the psychological, sociocultural, and cross‑cultural meanings of the Golden Hour and uninterrupted skin‑to‑skin contact, and how these shape parental expectations, bonding, and early breastfeeding behaviours.
  2. Analyse how social norms, family dynamics, birth setting culture, and practitioner attitudes influence parents’ experiences of early positioning, latch support, and hands‑on help, including the potential for trauma or empowerment.
  3. Evaluate the IBCLC’s role in providing culturally safe, person‑centred latch assessment and early breastfeeding support that honours diverse beliefs, communication styles, and caregiving practices while promoting optimal infant feeding and attachment.
